The cold chain sector in India is experiencing substantial growth and innovation, is playing a critical role in the logistics ecosystem. Mr. Surendra Ahirwar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), highlighted this development at FICCI’s Cold Chain and Logistics Summit held on 29th May in NewDelhi. The sector presently boasts a turnover of approximately Rs 2 lakh crore and is expanding at a robust annual rate of over 10%.
The summit unveiled the FICCI-Grant Thornton Bharat Report on “Cold Chain Dynamics: Mapping India’s Logistics Transformation,” highlighting the cold chain sector’s crucial role in overcoming infrastructure gaps and high costs in India’s food processing industry.
